The Ola Rough Striders met Saturday at the Ola Inn to discuss further plans for the Relay For Life. Joyce Miller was happy to report that we have a total so far of $1045.00 in donations through our team members and our fundraiser at the Syringa Hall. Thanks again to all who donated items for the Syringa Hall sale! Future fun fund-raising events include a 4th of July Old Fashioned Picnic and Dance scheduled for July 2nd and an ATV ride and picnic at the Sutton’s cabin in High Valley scheduled for July 24th. Watch here for further details, or call Joyce or Dora if you would like to help out with these events. You may have noticed our barrel at the transfer station for recycling aluminum cans. Thanks to Keith and Shanti for this idea for further fund-raising! A special part of the Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony. After the sun set, there is a special ceremony in honor of those who have lost their lives which culminates in a walk lit by luminaries decorated by folks in remembrance of loved ones or in honor of a loved one who has survived their battle with cancer. If you would like to make a luminary in honor of a loved one, you may pick up a bag to decorate for a $5.00 donation to our team. Call Joyce or Dora for more details or to get a bag.We are thrilled that our community is coming out strong in support of our team’s charter year at the Relay for Life. The Ola Rough Striders is second in Gem Co. in funds raised so far and Blane Carlock is the third top participant in the county. We’re thrilled, but not the least bit surprised because Ola always comes through!
