MISSING CATTLE REPORT FOR 2013

Missing Cows for 2013
The total number of livestock (cows, calves, yearlings, and bulls) missing has been calculated for the 2013 grazing season. These losses may be attributed to theft, poisonous plants or predators.
The 2013 fall & early 2014 winter has been relatively mild and some of these animals could be still alive.
The total number of animals missing is 96 head of cows, 7 bulls, 80 calves, and 4 yearlings for the 2013 season.
Year Cows Calves Bulls Yearlings
2013 96 80 7 4

2012 70 57 53 15

2011 97 74 9 25

2010 200 104 7 25

The 2013 and 2011 livestock losses are similar. The numbers are quite significantly better than the 2010 year. The relative mild fall and winter could attribute to the high number and they could still be out on the range since there is little or no snow on the ground to drive them home.
The surveillance by the Sheriff's offices  and the Idaho Brand Dept as well as the constant vigilance of the owners and operators have greatly reduced the losses.
The value of the losses is:
96 cows @$1500/cow =  $144,000
80 calves @ $900/ calf = $72,000
7 bulls @  $2500/ bull = $17,500
4 yearlings @ $1000/yrlg = $4,000
For a total loss of $237,500
