OLA'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

The program was great as always and there was a full house. All of the children were dressed in their Christmas finest outfits and really spoke up and sang out, during the entire program. The Hall looked festive as it was decorated with the students beautiful artwork. Thomas was outstanding as "Santa In Space". Lily sang "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" and brought tears to your eyes with her clear, sweet voice. Faith played "Away in the Manger" with poise and grace. Bob sang two carols that conveyed the true meaning of Christmas and Mrs. Andelin was a new and wonderful addition to the program as she played the violin the the piano. Our Kindergartners and preschoolers squealed with delight when Santa came into the Hall. He took time and got every one's list. Everyone in attendance received a goody bag. It was a wonderful evening. Many thanks to our students and staff for giving the community a wonderful Christmas gift!!

Thanks Joyce!

HARVEST DINNER A HUGE SUCCESS!

The Harvest Dinner held Saturday afternoon was a huge success! The weather was great and with lots of old cars, wonderful stories and great food, the day couldn't have been better. The lunch was highlighted by the Ola Ladies showing off the remodeled Hall. Having waited 17 years for the improvements, it truly was a special day. Wanda Sutton was honored as one of the oldest Ladies Club members. Wanda will be moving to Emmett in the next couple of weeks, she will be greatly missed.

SUCCESSFUL FUNDAISER!!

That's sweet!
Look at that turnout!

The fundraiser for the Blane Carlock family was a success!! About 300 people enjoyed dinner and dancing at the Ola Fire Hall Saturday night. Not even the cold, wet weather could dampen the warm hearts of the many friends and family from taking part in this community event for a great cause. Plenty of wonderful items were donated for the silent auction and the lucky winners were announced for the raffles. Paul Metcalf was the winner of the rifle and Dave Merritt, the winner of the beautiful quilt. Many, many thanks to everyone that helped make this fundraiser a successful one!

ANOTHER YEAR AND ANOTHER SUCCESS

The Ola Reunion has wrapped up for another year. This year's reunion was as successful, if not more so, than years passed. With 115 attending this year, people from all over came to enjoy the food and share their memories of our Ola Valley. Some of the attendees became acquainted with relatives they didn't know they had and were able to visit their old homesteads, thanks to Sharon S. Thanks to the Ladies Club for the hard work they put in to make this annual event possible.

UPDATE**

According to the Channel 7 website, 9,600 marijuana plants were confiscated on Tuesday from two different fields. One of the fields was in Gem County, the other in Valley County. Estimated street value about 19 million.

LAW ENFORCEMENT MOVES IN

Law Enforcement moved in early Tuesday morning, setting up their command post at Sutton's corner. The helicopter arrived about 8:00AM and the search was on. After flying around our valley, a marijuana field was discovered about 4.5 miles east of Ola. Throughout the day, the helicopter was bringing bundle after bundle to the corner. The marijuana was then loaded into a large dump truck to be disposed of at another location. The bundles contained plants that were at least 6-8 feet tall.

UPDATE: All was wrapped up at 7:15PM. Thousands of plants were recovered and will be destroyed.

COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETING LAST NIGHT

The County Commissioners were at the Hall last night to meet with the Ola residents. Attendance by the community wasn't great, but for those of us that were there it was well worth our while. The Commissioners brought with them a person from Health and Welfare and an Environmental Health Specialist. Both spoke about the minerals and toxins that can be found in our wells, toxicity levels and the areas of which they are most concerned. They provided information, along with sample bottles so that we can get our water tested. Jim, the well driller, was present. It was interesting to hear him discuss the different levels of soil, rock, minerals etc. encountered when digging a well. As far as anything new....Alvin Davis is now working in Emmett and was replaced by Roger Walker, and there was some discussion about doing something with High Valley Road (so much dust) but due to cost, that's not likely. We appreciate our Commissioners, and thank them for coming up to Ola.

I ask that you go to www.goodsearch.com, choose Ola Community Center and Church as your charity. Please review the site, if you have any questions, please feel free to call Kim 584-9030, I can walk you through adding Goodsearch as your toolbar.

*******

I understand that some of you are relying on your e-mail for the updates on the Newsletter. This is great, however, there seems to be about a 24 hour delay from the time I post new information and you get it in your e-mail. This is not a problem for most information, but sometimes 24 hours could be too late. Therefore, you might benefit from making the Newsletter your home page or bookmark it so you can easily pull it up everyday.

Have a Great Day!!

A DAY OF HUCKLEBERRY PICKING

I now know what Huckleberry picking is all about. It's getting together with good friends, having a nice picnic, enjoying the cooler temperatures and picking some berries.

Friday AM, a few of us got together and went Huckleberry picking. Thanks to Pat and Shannon for sharing the location of their secret spot, which yielded lots of berries. It was fun listening to everyone talk about what they like to do with their berries. Pies, pancakes, pudding, muffins and jam, it seems the sky is the limit. It was a good time!

INTERESTED IN SAVING $

Check out the website http://www.hip2save.com/. It's a great website to help you save money on anything from groceries, restaurants, shipping, clothing store sales and much more. This website has lots of useful information on couponing and illustrates the possible savings. Although not all the stores and restaurants are available to us in the Boise area, a great deal are. Take time to play with the site, it will definitely be worth your while.

THAT WAS A GOOD TIME!!!!

Four wheelers, a pickup and a jeep took a tour up Timber Flat. There were about 32 of us in all, each enjoying the wonderful weather and the breathtaking scenery. With dirty faces and sunburned arms, we listened to Sharon Sutton talk about the old homesteads and times of the past. After this great tour, everyone met back at the Hall where we enjoyed a potluck lunch.

Everyone had such a good time that plans are being made for next year.

Thank you Ladies Club and Sharon Sutton

a special thanks to Cinderella, you know who you are.
