PAUL AND PEGGY'S FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

3RD ANNUAL OLA ROUGH STRIDERS/RELAY FOR LIFE ATV RIDE AND PICNIC

It was a beautiful day for the 3rd Annual Ola Rough Striders/Relay For Life ATV Ride and Picnic. After a scenic ride through the trees and hills east of Ola, riders were treated to a picnic lunch. Being at a cooler, higher altitude made visiting with friends that much more enjoyable. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

It wasn't until we finished lunch that we noticed we picnicked near this....

UPDATE ON 19 FIRES STARTED FRIDAY

Update from KTVB on fires Friday.

ANOTHER FIRE!!

Another fire by the Triangle! GCFD#2 was called out at approx. 3AM to a fire across from the Triangle Inn, structures were in danger. Firefighters, again, got everything under control. Good job!!

HIGHWAY 52 FIRE

The Highway 52 fire was contained and most fire personnel were released from the scene about midnight.  Some BLM and GCFD#2 remained just in case.  It was reported that there were 19 fires in all.  The person responsible was stopped in Horseshoe Bend.  I was told that it doesn't appear to be intentional, just maybe a little carelessness.  A perfect example of how something as little as a chain or wire dragging can cause a spark.  With the hot and dry conditions, POOF! you've created 19 fires.

Thursday, July 25

Today was the American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Ola Community Center. A big thanks to Darlene Mingus for organizing this in the Ola community. Today, Barbara Lange was serving juice and cookies to those that had given blood. Thanks Barb for donating your time! And thank you to all that took time out of your day to donate! Your blood is needed and greatly appreciated!

TRAFFIC INFORMATION

Idaho Transportation Department (ITD)
Crews will begin rebuilding the left-turn lane at the intersection of Idaho 44 and W. State Street Thursday morning (July 25). Drivers will be prohibited from making a left-turn from Idaho 44 onto W. State Street during the work, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced. The left-turn lane will reopen by 7 p.m. Sunday (July 28).

During this closure, drivers are encouraged to access W. State Street from Eagle Road.

Motorists may expect delays during construction. Drivers should plan extra time for trips and, if possible, find an alternate route. Patience is appreciated. Safety is ITD’s number one priority. Motorists should remember to slow down, pay attention in construction zones and be aware of the safety of construction workers.

ITD began work on this project in November 2012. It’s expected that construction will be complete by this fall.

Every day approximately 19,000 motorists drive through the Idaho 44/Linder Road intersection. The improvements that ITD is making will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow for a smoother flow of traffic.

OLLIE UPDATE!

Ollie is alive and well.  He is still being cared for by Mike and Chris S.  This winter Ollie bonded with a herd of cattle that remained in a pasture southeast of Ola throughout the summer.  Ollie did not travel up to High Valley which made life easier for Mike S.  Often you can spot him wandering around the area of the Ola Cemetery or close to the Sweet-Ola Highway.

DON'T FORGET!! The American Red Cross will be in Ola for blood donations between 10 AM and 2 PM, Thursday, July 25th, at the Ola Community Center.

ATV RIDE AND PICNIC THIS SUNDAY!

To make your ride more enjoyable you may want to bring a bandana to protect your face from the dust, sunscreen and water for the ride. We will picnic at a spot that is accessible by car. Sign up at the Ola Inn, the Ola Post Office or the Ola Library. This is a fundraiser, donations are greatly appreciated.

THE GRIMES CREEK FIRE AS SEEN FROM OLA

A HUGE THANK YOU!!

Jim and Bobbie would like to thank friends, neighbors, the Ola Fire Department and IDL for the quick response and help with yesterday's grass fire.  Without everyone's help the results could have been devastating.  Thank you!!!

Sunday, July 14

Just wanted to share this with you.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON FIRE COMES VERY CLOSE TO STRUCTURE

A small grass fire came dangerously close to the Hoppock residence on Third Fork Road. GCDF#2 received the "tone out" early Sunday afternoon and remained on scene until about 4:30PM. The fire was under control quickly but firefighters remained to insure all "hot sports" were completely put out. The response time from the Ola Fire Department was terrific. Lots of firefighters responded to help out a neighbor. Sweet, Ola appreciates your response even though you were not needed this time.

HUMMER BANDING

Fred Bassett was at Zeillemaker's this morning doing what he does best, banding hummingbirds. Fred also is a great educator on these amazing little birds. Several people enjoyed watching and listening as Fred worked to record information on the hummers . Each year when Fred visits Ola it is fun to share this experience with someone new. I hope they had as much fun as I did. Thanks Fred and Melly for inviting us!
