SECOND FORK BRIDGE

JUST SO YOU KNOW...The Second Fork bridge is going to be set Wednesday, November 2nd. In order for that to happen it will have to be brought up to Ola via Highway 52 out of Emmett. At some point on Tuesday, November 1st, Highway 52 will be closed for approx. a half hour. Unfortunately as of now no one knows what time probably Tuesday afternoon. I will try and be more specific on Monday.

The Ola Rough Striders Relay For Life Team will host a Bunco Game this Saturday July 23rd at 4:PM at the Ola Hall. Sandwiches and Cookies will be served. The cost is $7.00 per person. Please plan to attend for a fun evening of laughter, competition, fellowship and prizes and you will be home before dark. This is in support of The American Cancer Society.

ELLEN'S MEMORIAL

Ellen's memorial is scheduled for the same day as the fundraiser. We will start the memorial at 3:00 at the Ola Community Hall. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate Ellen's life and share stories. 
 
They already have some great donations coming in for the auction: 2 loads of road mix from Harvey Church, 1 cord of firewood from Lane Bailey, oil changes from Hanigan's, 1 load of gravel from Dave Merritt, handmade crafts, homemade jewelry, and lots more! Also there will be a raffle for 4 VIP Boise Hawks tickets, donated by NRG Flooring in Emmett.   

The fundraiser will follow the memorial, at 5:30 pm. We have been working hard to gather donations, and there should be something there for everyone!

OLD ARMS OF IDAHO will be coming to the Sweet/Ola/High Valley area looking for people that have collectible firearms for sale. DINNER/DANCE FUNDRAISER FOR ELLEN

There will be  a fundraiser for Ellen Kharrl on Saturday, July 30th at the Ola Community Hall from 5:30 to 10:00. Come enjoy nachos and all the fixins starting at 5:30. Cost for the dinner is $5 per person or $20 per family. We will have bottled water available, and you are welcome to bring your own beverages. (No alcohol is allowed inside the Hall, but you may drink it outside.)

Live music will be outside! Kerbi is in the process of gathering donations for a silent auction as well.

ALL proceeds will go to help Ellen with bills related to her extended stay in the hospital. Please come out and support Ellen and her family. (Hopefully she will be out of the hospital by then!)

MASS GATHERING MEETING

The Gem County Commissioners will hold a public hearing regarding amendments to the Mass Gathering Ordinance. This hearing will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2016 at 6:30 in the district courtroom at the Gem County Courthouse.

PILLOWCASE PARTY FOR KIDS

A Pillowcase Party for Kids!

As part of a year long service project, one of the youth of Grace Lutheran Church, MaryCampbell, is working to contribute pillowcase dresses to Dress A Girl Around the World. Another use for pillowcases is to make special Pillowcases forOncology for kids with cancer, so Mary has partnered with WELCA to host a spring Pillowcase for Kids Party on March 5^th at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Boise, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend the party and no sewing skills are needed. Lunch will be provided.

Also needed are pillowcases, new and gently used, made of sturdy material as well as sturdy cotton fabric, ric rac, buttons, binding and other sewing notions.

 Today she joined the National Guard. It was a very exciting and emotional event. Viola will be leaving for Missouri to report to boot-camp on March 28. Much sooner than we expected. She has many plans to get in order, and a short amount of time to arrange them. We wish her the best of luck. We know she will do well.

OLA ROUGH STRIDER'S RELAY FOR LIFE NEW YEAR'S EVE GAME NIGHT

The Ola Rough Strider's Relay For Life Team will host a free family game night on New Year's Eve.

The fun will begin at 7:PM.  Bring your games, puzzles or coloring books to the Ola Community Hall.  We will have Bunco available to play.  The team will supply coffee and lemonade.  Please bring a snack or finger food to share.  Donations will be accepted.

Carol Shultz was transported to Walter Knox-Emmett yesterday afternoon then life flighted to Boise.  Her immediate condition is unknown.

Fire managers extend closed fire season, requiring permits for burning past Oct. 20 

(BOISE) – Continued dry conditions and unseasonably high fire danger statewide have prompted State of Idaho fire managers to extend the period required under law to obtain a fire safety burn permit for certain controlled burn activities. The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) announced today it would extend “closed fire season” until further notice. Closed fire season begins May 10 and usually extends through Oct. 20 every year. Idaho law (38-115) requires any person living outside city limits anywhere in Idaho who plans to burn anything – including crop residue burning and excluding recreational campfires – during closed fire season to obtain a fire safety burn permit. “Even though it’s the middle of October, conditions are expected to be warm and dry enough across Idaho to ignite a wildfire that can easily escape initial attack,” State Forester David Groeschl said. “Requiring fire safety burn permits past October 20 for certain controlled burn activities enables fire managers to set parameters for the types of burning allowed in certain areas that are still at risk for wildfire.” By October, there also are fewer firefighters, equipment, and aircraft available to respond to a controlled burn if it escapes. The fire safety burn permit system informs fire managers where burning activities are occurring, reducing the number of false runs to fires and saving firefighting resources for instances in which they are truly needed. It also enables fire managers to respond more quickly to fires that escape, potentially reducing the liability of the burner if their fire escapes. Fire safety burn permits can be obtained online at http://www.burnpermits.idaho.gov or in person at IDL offices statewide. The fire safety burn permit is free of charge and good for 10 days after it is issued. Permits issued through the self service web site are available seven days a week, issued immediately, and valid immediately. Residents also are encouraged to contact their local city or rural fire department before burning because some incorporated cities and towns may require their own burn permit. IDL will not issue fire safety burn permits within districts where local burn bans are in effect. Additionally, residents should contact the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) or the Nez Perce Tribe or Coeur d’Alene Tribe for burn restriction information for air quality. DEQ can be reached by calling (800) 633-6247 or visiting http://deq.idaho.gov/air-quality.aspx. If there are other burning restrictions in effect or additional or alternate permits required, the fire safety burn permit web site will provide instructions for Idahoans on how to contact those entities.

It's about that time of year when we as a PTO start working on our events for the Ola School. This year we are having our carnival on Halloween Night. We are asking the community for donations of dishes for the dish toss as well as items we can auction off to raise funds for the school. Dishes can be dropped off at the school or at Katie Pooles house.
