A BIG THANK YOU TO MANY!!

To the Ola Ladies Club, the Syringa Club and everyone that made and brought all the good food and to those that helped serve, thank you.  Many thanks to the ones that collected the many nice items for the silent auction and the ones that worked so hard at getting the auction setup and ready.  Thanks to Bob Lucas for doing a great job at taking care of the gun raffle and selling tickets last Saturday.  It was a great raffle and brought in about $1,300 for Bill and Barb.  Thank you Michelle and Aaron of Triangle Inn for donating the gun.  Thanks to Bob Hartgrove for collecting the money and donations at the door.  A big thank you to everyone that brought and donated items for the auction and to all the lucky ones with the winning bids.  Thanks to our local firemen for moving the fire trucks out, moving tables, chairs etc. from the Community Center and setting them up at the Fire Station and then of course moving them all back.  John and Tracy of the Ola Inn, thanks for carrying on into the night to benefit this Fundraiser for Bill and Barb.  Cannot say "Thanks" enough to the great community's in our area and for the people that are always there for each other when there is a need.  Thanks to all of you , the Fundraiser was a big success.

COWBOY SUPPER/FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY

Family and friends of Bill and Barb enjoyed a very wet Saturday at the Cowboy Supper/Fundraiser in Ola.  The event was originally going to be held at the Ola Community Center but was changed to the Ola Fire Hall.  The Ola Fire Hall was a perfect place to accommodate the numerous silent auction items and the family, friends and neighbors of Bill and Barb.  The silent auction was successful and everyone walked away with a full stomach.  The raffle for the 12 gauge shotgun brought in $1,335.00. We are still waiting for the totals on the supper and auction, donations and payments for auction items are still coming in.  The Ola Ladies Club did a wonderful job and many, many thanks to the generous donors to the silent auction.  Thank you to everyone for your support!!

THANK YOU FROM BOB and JODIE

We want to extend a huge thank-you to all of our Ola friends for their kind thoughts, cards and prayers in regarding the home-going of my dad, Robert Lucas.

Dad left this life peacefully on January 7 at his home in Florida.  He will be remembered around here because he loved everything that is Ola, and he greatly enjoyed his time with here with many of you on his trips to the valley.  A short slideshow/memorial can be viewed on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5Zaqsdypu0 ; there are several photos from his time here in Ola.  Thanks again for your kind remembrances for our family.  Bob & Jodie Lucas

A NOTE FROM TOM BLESSINGER

The 2011 cattle loss inventory has been totaled. The areas that the livestock were in was Squaw Creek drainage, Dry Buck, Brownlee areas, Tripod, Crane Creek, Indian Mountain, West Mountain and High Valley areas.

The losses were about half of 2010 losses, better, but still not good. There were 97 cows, 74 calves, 9 bulls and 25 heifers reported missing.

These figures to be estimated at:
97 cows @ $1500/cow=$145,500
74 calves @ $800/calf=$59,200
9 bulls @. $2000/bull=$18,000
25 heifers @ $1000/heifer=$25,000
TOTAL. $244,700

$250,000 at today's prices

The 2011 fall was good with little snow or rain. The feed situation was excellent with lots of dry feed with an understory of 3" of green grass. The livestock were reluctant to come in or down. Inclement weather and shortage of forage make cattle go towards home.

We attribute the reduction in livestock losses to the awareness of the ranchers, law enforcement officers, brand inspectors, Idaho State Police, Department of Transportation, concerned citizens and informative public meetings.

The state of the economy, job losses and the high price of livestock make rustling attractive.

Everyone keep up the awareness and let's make the losses drop again.

Kevin Jailett and Dennis Weaver attended a  IVFESA Retention & Recruitment Workshop in Coeur d’Alene this past weekend. A very good class.
