THANK YOU!!

The Ola Rough Striders, your Relay For Life Team, thanks you for making this year a success. With your help we raised $4,177.62. There are 26 members on our team. If you would like to join, contact any team member or just come to a meeting.
Gem County raised $56,651.46 with 37 teams and a total of 334 team members. We came in third place this year in money raised. Walmart employees were first and Albertson's employees were second. Raising money is important but raising the awareness of cancer prevention and treatment are also stressed. Survivors are celebrated, caregivers are honored and those that lost their fight are remembered on Relay night.
This year's theme was "Finish The Fight". Relay For Life is a fund raising arm of the American Cancer Society. The majority of the money raised is for cancer research. Together we can make cancer a thing of the past. Thank you Ola!

The Triangle Inn has been busy this week serving hardy home cooked meals to the multiple fire crews that were brought in to fight the Timber Butte fire.  Not only are Michelle and Arron serving hot meals to these hard working men and women, but they are also preparing approx. 350 sack lunches daily for those on the fire line.  These men and women work very long, hard hours, the Triangle Inn fits the bill after a long day fighting fire.  Thank you Michelle and Aaron!!
Good morning! This will be the "FINAL UPDATE" from the Incident Management team; we will be transitioning back to the local unit (IDL) this evening.

Thank you!

Jennifer
Incident Information

Summary:   With newly mapped dozer lines added, the total fire size is 6797 acres and is 95 percent contained.  The fire area received widespread rain most of the day and crews were able to mop-up and repair lines along the south and west edges of the fire perimeter.  Crews were pulled off the northeast side of the fire for safety reasons today during the rain.  They were able to reengage in the afternoon and continue work on the interior.

Current Situation:  Today, crews will continue to repair dozer lines and begin back haul of equipment. There will be crews working in the northeast area of the fire, continuing to work in areas to extinguish heavy, down logs and interior smokes.  Crews will begin to demobilize as the fire transitions back to locale administration.  The Great Basin Incident Management Team 5 will turn back management of the fire to local managers at 8:00 PM tonight

Weather: Drier air will move into the area today, decreasing the chance of showers and thunderstorms over the fire area.  Temperatures will be in the low 80s with minimum humidity around 30 percent.  Chance of wetting rain is 20 percent.  Gusty and erratic winds are possible with any thunderstorms that do develop.

Area Fire Restrictions: Stage I fire restriction in the West Central Mountains will be rescinded at midnight on Friday, 15 August 2014

Wednesday, August 13

Head on collision at Freezout Hill. Two cars involved, one rollover.
Avoid the area. There are injuries and crews are on the scene.

Good morning!  Here is the daily update and fire perimeter map for today.

Have a great day!

Incident Information

Summary:   A reconnaissance flight yesterday mapped the fire at 6700 acres and 85 percent contained.  Fire activity was again minimal and the northeast side of the fire received precipitation which helped firefighters along the fire line. The south and west side of the fire continued to be mopped up and repair of dozer lines in the area began later in the afternoon.

Current Situation:  Today, crews will continue to mop up and repair dozer lines along the south and west side of the fire perimeter.  Crews will also continue to use pumps and hoses along the northeast side of Timber Butte where there is still some isolated burning in heavier fuel types.

Weather:  A system moving across the Pacific Northwest will create another day of showers and thunderstorms over the Timber Butte Fire area today.  A Red Flag warning is in effecttoday until Wednesday afternoon. Precipitation and gusty winds are predicted in the afternoon with increased lightning activity.  Temperatures are expected to be lower today, ranging in the low to mid 80s.

Area Fire Restrictions: Stage I fire restriction are in effect for the West Central Mountains and more information can be found at http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/prog/fire/restrictions.html.

Even with that nice shower yesterday afternoon, the lightening managed to start a couple of fires. One is High Valley and the other north on Second Fork. GCFD#2 responded until IDL arrived.

Tuesday, August 12

Good afternoon! Crews continue to make excellent progress on the fire today due to slightly cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity's. The western and southern flank resources are mopping up hot spots 20-30 feet from the fire perimeter. The eastern flank (specifically Timber Butte) crews are constructing hose lays to help extinguish interior hot spots within the timbered areas.

There is a "Fire Weather Watch" over the fire area for isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Crews will be vigilant for outflow winds and showers that are associated with the predicted incoming storms.

Have a great afternoon!

75% CONTAINMENT!!!! GREAT JOB GUYS AND GALS!!

Timber Butte Fire reaches 75 percent containment

The Timber Butte Fire burning near Sweet in Gem and Boise Counties is 75 percent contained. There was no fire growth today. Better mapping shows the fire is 7,600 acres in size.

A total of six outbuildings - all on the same property - were lost in the fire. Firefighters saved any residences threatened by the fire.

Fire investigators determined the Timber Butte Fire is human caused.

Favorable conditions helped firefighters focus on securing containment lines, especially along the northern flank of the fire.

The Great Basin Regional Incident Management Team 5 will take over management of the Timber Butte Fire Tuesday at 6 a.m. under Incident Commander Mike Wilde.

The fire started August 9 in the late afternoon. It is burning in an area protected by the Idaho Department of Lands Southwest Forest Protective District. Cooperators include local fire departments, county sheriffs, Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security, and the Bureau of Land Management. Additionally, one member of the recently established Black Canyon Rangeland Fire Protection Association participated in suppression efforts, using his own dozer to protect private property.

SUNDAY-TIMBER BUTTE FIRE

In case you missed it HERE is the story that was broadcasted on Channel 7.
Also some pictures of the fire tonight that I took.

Marilyn Watson's goats have been gone for over a week.  If anyone finds them, dead or alive please let her know.  584-3816

They went missing from Third Fork (29450) but could have wandered off to-who knows!
Every possible resource is helping in containing the Timber Butte Fire north of Sweet. If you don't live or work in the area, please stay away. The traffic was terrible last night and today, this is dangerous for the "sightseers", the firefighters and property owners trying to safe their homes. For everyone's safety, please stay home!

Fizz! Boom! Read! Ola Library Summer Reading Sessions 5 & 6

The photos include, beginning at top, a collage of the July 26, Session 5 activity, making Frozen clay.  Participants first unrolled a roll of toilet paper, placed it in a bowl and mixed in one bar of shredded Ivory soap.  Helpers poured warm, blue-colored water into the mix, and the children squished and kneaded the mixture until a clay formed.  At the end of the session, they were challenged to take the clay home, make a sculpture and bring it for sharing the next week.  Pictured in the second photo, are those who met the challenge and created sculptures.  Each sculpture was awarded a rosette extolling its creative merits.

The last summer reading activity - making Elephant's Toothpaste !  In the next four photos, children watch as their mixtures of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, food coloring, and dissolved yeast create large spirals of colorful toothpaste.

Finally, it was time to present the t-shirts and certificates to those who met their reading goals for the 6-week summer reading program.  First, however, volunteers, without whose help the reading program could not have been such a great success, received certificates of appreciation and t-shirts.  Pictured with the librarian, MaryLee Blackford, are Barbara Lange, Linda Rau, Judie McCaulou, and Laura Carlock.   Volunteers not present are Norma Hyde and John Nunez.  John generously gave of his time to gather materials needed for some of the activities.

Parents who participated in the Read-to-Me category were Carrie Andelin with Jiles, Zoe, and Oliver; Shannon Foruria with Allie; Amanda Poole with Travis; and Mary Atkinson with Tiffany.

Those who participated as Independent Readers are pictured, (top row)  Anahi Chavez, Justin Poole, Spencer Andelin, Timmy Weymouth, and Shirley Anne Weymouth.  (middle row) Savannah  Weymouth, Kaitlyn May, Hannah Poole, Ulysses Chavez, Abby Foruria, Katelyn Andelin.  (first row) Rachel Weymouth, Ezra Andelin, Travis Poole, Cody Poole, and Samual Atkinson.
