Commissioner Sharon Church-Pratt announces that she will not seek re-election to the Gem County Board of County Commissioners, a position she has held since 2001 and is the current Chair of the Board.

Gem County Commissioner Michele Sherrer and her family announced today that she will not seek re-election to the Gem County Board of County Commissioners. Commissioner Sherrer has served Gem County as a Commissioner for nearly 10 years.
“This has been a difficult decision. I have been humbled that our community has elected me to serve them and it has been an honor to serve the citizens of Gem County,” stated Commissioner Sherrer. “However, the time has come for me to look at other opportunities and embrace new challenges. It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of Gem County for nearly 10 years and I want others to have the same opportunity. Thus, I have decided not to seek re-election. I want to sincerely thank my numerous supporters and acknowledge the friendships I have made. I have been blessed,” continued Sherrer.
Commissioner Sherrer has represented Gem County at the regional, state and national level on numerous boards and commissions addressing a range of substantive policy issues. She was elected by her peers to serve on the Idaho Association of Counties Board of Directors and also on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors. Sherrer has served Governor Otter on the Select Task Force on Health Care, Idaho Health Care Council and the Drug Court and Mental Health Court Coordinating Committee. She is the also the Chairman of the Idaho Council of Governments (ICOG). Sherrer completed the County Leadership Institute at New York University in 2004 and has recently received her Master’s in Public Administration from Boise State University.

Volunteers Needed to Plant for Wildlife
Idaho Fish and Game needs volunteers to plant thousands of sagebrush and bitterbrush seedlings during March on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area east of Boise where a human-caused fire last summer burned critical winter range.
The annual volunteer planting project will begin on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Subsequent planting projects will be conducted on March 10, 17, 24 and 31. Transportation and planting tools will be provided.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO
We would like to personally thank the Ola Ladies Club for their outstanding accomplishments and successes that they have achieved for the Ola, Idaho community since 1933.
Ola, Idaho may be a small rural community, but the women's achievements are a hundred fold of much larger towns.
Some of their accomplishments are: getting a grant to drill a new well and fix the kitchen for the Community Hall, new roof for the church, school, new siding for the church, books for the school and library, computers for the school, and fire district needs just to name a few.
In the event of a funeral, the bereaved families know that they can gather at the Community Hall with a "spread fit for a King". The women also put on benefits to aid in expenses incurred during illness or losses.
The food provided: main courses, salads and desserts would rival any "five star restaurant".
These women have worked together so long and often that their participation is like a "well greased machine". Their food preparation and the serving of such is very professional, proficient and fast.
Thank you ladies for your service to the Ola Community.

RELAY FOR LIFE-OLA ROUGH STRIDERS TEAM
Are you ready to start our second season of fun and fund raising. February 15th at 6:pm is the RelayKick-off at Carberry School. I have attended the last two years and this is always a fun event. I hope that some of our team members can attend.
We are starting the our year off with another great sock-hop on March 10th at the Ola Hall. Plans are already underway. Alan Jacobus has joined our team and will again be our wild and crazy D.J. We are going to have some dance lessons for those who would like to sharpen their dance skills. These will be held at the Ola Inn on February 22nd, 29th and March 7th. John will open the Inn at 3:pm for our lessons. Dance instructors will Roger Beal and Mark and Tia Andelin. These lessons are free of charge and open to all ages.
So you can see we are going to be have another great year. Our first meeting will be on Februrary 25th at10:00 AM at the Inn. We will be using the newly opened back room for our meetings. What a great place! I hope to see everyone returning for another year and bring your partner. We need to make our plans and enjoy ourselves.
Don't forget we are still recycling cans. Drop them off on Saturday mornings at the transfer station.
