A BEER LOVERS DREAM..

...that's if your were following the beer truck that believed his GPS.  A beer truck from St. Louis, Missouri, on his way to Lewiston, Idaho went through Emmett, his GPS instructed him to Highway 55 via Ola then onto Pine Creek Rd.  Needless to say Pine Creek isn't the road for a 50ft trailer hauling 40,000 lbs. of beer.  As he's bouncing and spinning out on Pine Creek, I guess beer was falling out the back.  A wrecker had to come up and finally get him out.  Lesson to be learned....never rely on your GPS, ask a local.

Thanks Tom B. for calling with this story!

Yesterday afternoon Sweet/Ola EMS was dispatched to respond to an unresponsive 70 year old male at the Mill Creek Summit and Third Fork gravel pit. Emmett EMS and Air ambulance also responded. Unfortunately before emergency personnel arrived the male died of an apparent heart attack.

The Haunted Hall is looking for handouts for the little ghosts and goblins, Mickey and Minnies etc. etc. Candy, pencils stuff to Trick or Treat for. There will also be tables available for the community to decorate and hand out their own goodies. Remember to Haunted Hall is from 6-9 Thursday PM.

Wife of the same guy that was killed in crash found yesterday?  Probably, the pickup did have Oregon plates even though the news outlets said he was from Nampa.  Guess we'll never know the rest of the story.

YOUR HELP IS REQUESTED!

Today I received this e-mail from Linda O'Kelly.  Linda lost her two horses on October 5 when they were hit by a pickup on Highway 52.  As the e-mail states the driver of the pickup is now suing for his damages.  The O'Kelly's have found a good lawyer that is familiar with "Open Range".  Please take the time to mail or e-mail the information that the attorney has requested.

"Received letter from the person who hit my horses, wants me to pay for HIS damages.
Going to our  atty on Friday.  Gathering info on anyone who knows me or seen me w/my horses.  Will state the things she could do or the time spent w/her for the cute things she performed.  Can send info next week

It is one thing to hit livestock on the hwy's, another to try and run,  ignore flashing lights, endangering  a young family who had pulled off the hwy for their own safety.  Please help us correct this wrong...."

Here's another story about the blizzard that has devastated ranchers in the Midwest. Thank you Jennifer for the e-mail.

A herd of at least a couple hundred sheep was being moved down the Sweet-Ola Highway this morning...and I didn't have my camera! Dang! It truly is one of the things that tops the list of "Why I like living up here". Watching sheepherders moving their sheep.

This pic is from last year.
Thanks Karin!

HAVE A GREAT COLUMBUS DAY TOMORROW!

Just like the past 13 days, government offices will be closed.

A BLIZZARD NAMED ATLAS

Not much has been reported about the early October blizzard that left ranchers in parts of the midwest devastated.  There are reports that anywhere from 75,000-100,000 cattle were lost.  Here are just a couple of articles.  A RECORD SETTING BLIZZARD and UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAPPENED    If you would like to read more on this just Google "Blizzard Atlas"  The news stations didn't give it much, if any, coverage.

Beautiful old cars, good friends, great dinner, a nice fall day and a little shopping, this would describe the Ola Harvest dinner held Saturday afternoon. The Ola Ladies Club served a wonderful meal of turkey, ham and all the fixings. Raffle tickets were on sale and the drawing was held after dinner for your choice of centerpiece. That was fun! Proceeds from the raffle benefit the Ola Ladies Club.

The Ola Library held their annual book sale also this afternoon. The proceeds from the book sale benefit the library.

A big thanks to everyone for spending your afternoon in Ola.

YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU-THAT'S RIGHT, YOU!

Last week there was a meeting regarding the EMS service for the Sweet-Ola area.  Bottom line we need more trained people to be available for the ambulance service.  Training is available for EMT's in Emmett.

EMT COURSE

If you or someone you know or there is a firefighter within District #2, who would like to attend a formal, in-house EMT course, they will be starting one in January 2013.  Some basic logistics of the course:

Cost $450.00 per person (covers books as well).  To attend over the hill would cost $1500-1700 just for the course, not including mileage and more time away.
Class will run from January 8th through the end of march
Class will be located at the Gem Co. EMS station from 6-10 pm on assigned nights
Class time will be 40-44 hours per month.  Week one W/Th, week two M/W/Th, week three W/Th, etc.
Ride time will be begin in december so that people can start to see if its for them and to get their EMS career on the right track
The individual will pay for the course up front.  They will have until January 10 to pay.  If they stay on for one year, $200 gets returned....if they stay on for two years the remaining $250.00 gets returned.
For more information call Janice @365-3521

EMR COURSE

Also a plan is in the works to provide EMR training starting soon.  This is an approx. 60 hour course and may be offered on consecutive Saturdays in Sweet and/or Ola.  More information will be available when the plan comes together.

A THANK YOU FROM PAT SWEENEY

I would like to thank everyone for coming to my benefit.  Everyone was so kind to me.  People were generous with their donations. I will use all this money on my medical expenses.

It was a good feeling to see so many people found the time to come and make the evening a success.

Thank you everyone.
