WE APPRECIATE OUR FIREFIGHTERS

Our volunteer firefighters are always educating themselves on ways to keep us safe. Whether taking classes online or attending weekend workshops, these volunteers are knowledgeable and prepared for any disaster that may occur. Here are some pictures of what they were doing this winter. We appreciate the time that they take out of their busy schedules to ensure our safety. A big thank you!

A potluck and speaker Bill Betts brought several people to the Ola Hall Saturday afternoon. If you were unable to attend, you missed a great lunch and a speaker that captivated the audience with his knowledge of the Native American Indian. If you ever get the chance to hear Bill speak, make time!

SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER!!

We had a successful sale at the Sweet Community Flea Market for the Ola Rough Striders Relay for Life Team. Our team raised $488.50 at the sale and there are still some items that are being considered for purchase, so we look to clear at least $500! Included in this total is $55.00 for Papa Murphy's Peel-a-Deal fundraising cards. These cards are a great deal, they cost $5.00 and net $25.00 in savings on Papa Murphy's Pizza. We have plenty Peel-a-Deal cards left, so why not give Joyce a call and purchase one! All proceeds to go Gem Relay For Life! The Ola Rough Striders want to thank everyone who donated items, helped set up the table, and purchased goods at our sale!

COLLECTING CANS FOR RELAY FOR LIFE

We will start collecting cans at the transfer station this Saturday. We would like the cans rinsed, crushed and tied in bags, but we will not refuse any aluminum cans. Please don't put garbage in our container. This was been a problem in the past. Thanks!!

RELAY FOR LIFE INFO

Hello Team,

We are moving right along with our activities and financial goals.
Blane has turned in $70.00. Good job! Each team member has a goal of $100.00.
Shanti suggested that we recycle aluminum cans. Alan Sutton said that we can place a collection container at the transfer station. So save your aluminum.

We will have a table at the Syringa Flea Market, the 25th and 26st, now it's time to start gathering our items. If you want a set price be sure to mark the item, otherwise we will let people barter at the time of the sale. Set up is Thursday, the 24th from 9:AM to 3:PM. If you would like to help set up or haul items down, please do. We will also have a donation container at the sale. If anyone else would like to sell please contact me.

We have ten team members that have registered on line. I encourage the rest of you to get with it and sign up. Once we have the flea market money those of you that have worked for the team in any way will have some of that money applied to your goals. If you reach your goal of $100.00 you will receive your Relay For Life T-shirt free of charge.

Dora and I were very heartened by the number of you that showed up for our first team meeting. Your enthusiasm was great and your ideas were wonderful. Let us keep up the spirit.

Mark your calendars. The next team meeting is May 7th at 10:am at the Inn.

Thank you!
Joyce

THANK YOU FOR A GOOD TIME!

As most of you know, the Ola Inn was been leased to Tracy and John Nunez. Alan and I have had so much fun getting the Ola Inn up and running. We would like to thank everyone that helped while we were in the cleanup process and our customers we had the pleasure of serving. Our last day will be Sunday, March 20th. The Inn will be closed from the 21st until the 29th giving Tracy and John the chance to move their stuff in and prepare to serve you.

Again, thank you so much!!

Tuesday, March 8

The Ola Rough Striders met Saturday, March 5 at the Ola Inn. We were excited to have 18 people come to learn more about our team for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Joyce Miller discussed the impact of cancer in Ola and many had personal stories to share of how cancer is affecting their lives. Dora Miller shared some of her experiences at last year’s Relay for Life. The Relay for Life is essentially a fund raiser and the suggested goal for each team is $1000. We brainstormed together for ways our team will raise money and ideas included a 4th of July picnic, a dance, a Play Day in High Valley and a Historical Tour on 4x4’s.

We will have a sale table at the Sweet Syringa Club Hall on March 25th and 26th in Sweet, and are accepting donations for sale. If you would like to donate to our team, you may do so by going to the Relay for Life of Gem County website and clicking on the Donate button. Be sure to donate by team and select the Ola Rough Striders. http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=33952&pg=entryAlso, while you're there, you may join our team, we’d love to have you!!!

Our next team meeting will be held May 7th, 10:00a.m. at the Inn.

GREAT NEWS!!!!

Gem County Fire District #2 is celebrating the award of two FEMA grants. The first is for a new fire truck in the amount of $225,000. The second grant in the amount of $178,000, is for personal protection equipment which includes new turnouts and self contained breathing apparatus for each volunteer, also included will be a compressor and a cascade system to fill the oxygen cylinders. The fire district is required to pay a 10% match, or about $40,000 to receive the grants, which is considered a good investment for the return we receive.

The fire district also received a HUD Block Grant for $319,000 for the Sweet-Montour fire station which will be built on the land the Hartgrove family donated south of Sweet at Butte Rd. The Sweet, Ola and Montour communities are raising funds to help cover the match money and extra necessities for the station that the funding will not cover. ALL SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
