LET'S WALK!!!

Join us walking on Sunday mornings!!
Meet at the end of Susan and Alan's driveway
 (Timber Flat).
 Sunday mornings at 9:00AM.
Sometimes we walk up from there,
sometimes we walk down to High Valley Road
Whatever direction it's good exercise and beautiful scenery.
A great way to start a day!!

Saturday, March 24

Landowners and new cow operators who lease land in the Timber Flat and Squaw Creek drainages, let the community know who, where and their brands. Many times estrayed livestock show up in Ola or in the lanes and no one knows or has a clue who they belong to.  It makes it easier to return them to their rightful owners if information is provided.

Let John at the Ola Inn have this information.

MANY THANKS!

A special thanks and appreciation to the Ola Ladies Club and the Ola Community for the use of their Community Hall for our "Missing Cattle" meeting.

An enjoyable and informative presentation was given by Greg Hansen (trapper) with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on wolves, their habits and how to identify wolf kills.

Thanks to Dr. Fredricksen and Ric Clay for their presentation on poisonous plants and salt and mineral supplementation.

Last but not least, a special thanks to Larry Hayhurst, Chief Brand Inspector for the State of Idaho and Lynn Gibson and Cibrena Wright, area brand inspectors and Chuck Rolland, Gem County Sheriff, for their presentations on arrests, what to look for and other incidents.

Again, thanks to the Ola Ladies Club for the coffee, punch and cookies that they provided.  Also to Ken Rutherford and Simplot Livestock for their monetary contribution.

Thanks to the ranchers and community citizens who attended and who help make the public awareness possible.  Since the 2011 meeting, the livestock losses have been cut in half.  Still too many-Let's do better.

Thanks,
Tom Blessinger

EMMETT SCHOOL DISTRICT VACANCY

Emmett School District is looking for an individual to fill a trustee vacancy on the school board due to the resignation of Scott Ethington. The person filling this vacancy will be appointed until July 2013. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and résumé to the superintendent’s office by April 5, 2012. Those interested will be interviewed by the current School Board members at the April 12th board meeting.

After an extensive review of the Emmett School District Charter and State laws all board members are now appointed or elected at large. There are no longer trustee zones in the district. This is the same way board members are elected in the other 2 charter districts in Idaho. Any qualified individual that lives in Gem County is able to apply for this position. WHY ARE WE LOSING OUR CATTLE?

Why are we losing our cattle?  At Thursday afternoon's "Missing Cattle" meeting three possibilities were discussed.  People, predators and poisonous weeds. Presentations were given on wolves and coyotes, poisonous weeds in our area and a discussion on public awareness to help prevent cattle rustling. These meetings are not only informative but a great way for neighbors and friends to get together and share thoughts on a common concern.  Thank you Tom Blessinger for bringing us all together.  Also thank you Ola Ladies Club for the wonderful array of cookies.
