HAVE YOU HEARD THE GREAT NEWS?

The Ola Community Church is getting a new roof.  A lady, who wishes to remain anonymous, approached Judy at the Ola Reunion and said that she wanted to give enough money to put a new roof on the church.  All related parties met with a contractor and the construction will begin the first part of October.  It will be done in stages just in case it decides to rain.  A HUGE thank you to this incredibly generous lady!!

LAURIE'S FUNDRAISER

MESSAGE FROM OLC PRESIDENT

There has been an error in the article that is in the Messenger Index regarding the Fundraiser for Laurie Link. Ola Ladies Club is sponsoring the fundraiser but I did not put this ad in the Index nor did anyone else from the Ola Ladies Club. It would have been nice of the person that felt they needed to put this ad in to have called me to get the details correct. The fundraiser is for Laurie Link, as many of you know she was hurt earlier this summer when her horse stumbled and she was thrown off and hurt very badly. Ola Ladies Club was planning on another fundraiser at the time for a good friend of the community, Jerry Marx who had been diagnosed with cancer and was taking treatments. When he heard about Laurie's accident he ask us to do the fundraiser for her instead. He said he felt she needed it more than him, that is why we all love Jerry, he is always thinking of others. Jerry is still struggling with his cancer and we still need to keep him in our prayers. So please come and join us Saturday for a great evening of good food, lots of nice silent auction items and dance to Laurie's favorite band Buddy and the Home Wreckers. Joy Weaver, 584-3522 President, Ola Ladies Club.

MANY THANKS TO THE FIREFIGHTERS

by KTVB.COM KTVB.COM Posted on September 21, 2012 at 3:38 PM Updated today at 3:49 PM Gallery . See all 3 photos » EMMETT, Idaho -- A Gem County hunter and his son captured several dramatic photos of a wildfire that raced out of control Thursday, nearly burning a home east of Emmett. Neil Fulton was hunting near Montour, Idaho, when he spotted the smoke and flames. Fulton emailed us with the photos he captured. "My son and I were hunting up there and [we had] seen the fires and lots of smoke," Fulton said. "We were having trouble breathing, and got out of that area as we thought we would have a hard time getting out of there soon." Gem County firefighters along with Bureau of Land Management fire crews responded to the blaze. BLM Spokesperson Mallory Eils said her agency provided two fire engines, a bulldozer, and two helicopters. Eils says about 140 acres were burned. Fulton said he and his son "pray that the guy's house in the picture is ok," and added "he was yelling hard at everybody for help." Officials say no homes or buildings were burned in the fire.

Last week a cowboy riding a white horse was seen ripping up an Obama poster on Third Fork!! Who could do such a thing?

A LITTLE TOWN LOVES A BIG WHITE DOG

The adventures of Ollie continue..last night Ollie was spotted in Ola.  What? you ask..it was just Wednesday that Mike S. finally found him after a month and he was up in High Valley.  Well, apparently Ollie made an executive decision to bring his favorite cow and calf home to the Ola valley.  So late yesterday afternoon he was spotted in Ola.  Mike S. was called and he went looking.  By that time the pair got separated from Ollie and he paniced, headed back up HV road, then a left onto Timber Flat.  He was so hot and so tired everyone backed off until traffic got lighter and the afternoon cooled down.  He eventually came back down, Mike was able to feed him and will look for him again this evening. He's an interesting dog and we love his story.

COOPERATION

In the early summer of 2011, the association rider with his pickup and horse trailer slid off the road that goes from 2nd Fork to the association cabin.  It was determined by the forest service that the road was a safety hazard and needed to be fixed.

Tom Blessinger and Ken Rutherford, association members, met with Robert "Smitty" Smith, Forest Service engineer at the road site.  Smitty figured what needed to be done, amount of the pit run and road mix needed, size of culvert, etc.

It was decided that the Forest Service would hire Denny Weaver to install the culvert, the association would supply the culvert, and the forest service would grade road and after road had gravel put on it, they would grade the road again.  Pat Carlock, association member, furnished a gravel truck, the association hired Denny Weaver to haul the gravel.  The association paid Jeff Carlock to drive Pat's truck and the association bought the fuel for the company truck.  Another cooperative move was to trade county gravel for forest service gravel.  Gravel was taken out of the county pit which was a savings of several miles.
It is amazing what can be accomplished with cooperation.
