CHRISTMAS PROGRAM 2011

The Ola Community Christmas Program was wonderful.  Ola has much talent in the musicians and readers to the beautiful children.  The Ola ladies Club presented the Ola School with a check for $800.00 in lieu of the ladies gift exchange. Thank you ladies.  The children played to a full house. From the kindergartens to the sixth graders the cast spoke their lines and sang with smiles on their faces.  The kids  were all dressed up for Christmas with the girls in dresses and the boys in dress shirts and ties. It is always a joy to notice how much they have grown since the previous program. A highlight of the program is always the reading of birth of Jesus and the children placing the figurines in the Nativity scene.  We all sang Christmas song and carols and awaited the arrival of Santa who made sure that everyone who was good received a goodie bag.  Sharon Sutton won the P.T.O. dinner basket raffle.  A fun time was had by all.  Thank you to the Ola School staff and the wonderful people of Ola for this  gift to our community.

Thanks to my photographer and reporter for covering for me!

UPDATE ON NICK aka TICK

Several people from the Ola community donated money to go towards Nick's vet bills. Nick, as you recall, was the blue tick hound that came to P.A.L. in very poor shape.  Thanks to your generosity, Nick has fully recovered and is in excellent health.  Nick also has a new home, a hound rescue group that will care for him until his perfect forever home can be found.  He was transported to his new home by plane through a wonderful program called Pilots For Pets. Isn't this a wonderful Christmas story?! Thanks to all!

SANTA VISITED P.A.L. THIS WEEKEND

Santa made a stop at the Pet Adoption League this weekend.  As a fundraiser for P.A.L,. pet owners could have their pet's picture taken with Santa.  Although dogs and cats were the majority of the photographed animals, one young man brought in his duck.  Also available for purchase to benefit P.A.L,. were beautiful Christmas wreaths.  This year was a big success!  Thanks to everyone for your contribution!  (P.S. Yes, this is Rufus with Santa)

OLA LADIES CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY 2011

The Ola Ladies Club had their Christmas party this Saturday afternoon.  It was so good to see so many neighbors and friends present.  It was also very nice to see the ladies from Sweet and to visit with a couple ladies that I don't see on a regular basis.  The food was plentiful and delicious.  Melly provided us with an interesting history of "Sinterklaas" and  Joyce Miller read a Christmas story, it was very nice.
This year monetary donations were accepted to purchase science kits for the Ola Elementary.  Also the ladies were asked to bring food items for Ola's family in need  Thank you Ladies, your generosity is overwhelming.
This wonderful lady put in a few hours ahead of time to make sure the Hall looked festive. Thank you Joy!  It looked beautiful!

GOOD MEETING LAST NIGHT!

The meeting last night with the Commissioners was great.  I know those us that attend appreciate the Commissioners coming up and keeping us informed as to what's going on in the county. Some of what was discussed was the resurfacing of the Sweet-Ola Highway,  a new culvert and some gravel on Timber Flat Road and the building of a new Sheriff's office in Emmett.  Neil, from the road department, and the engineers have been working on what changes will be made to make the highway better and safer.  He will be contacting the effected land owners in the next two weeks.  Gem County Fire District #2 has a new board member, Mark Johns is being replaced by Harvey Church.  WKMH is now a licensed Paramedic Transport Service, if transportation is needed from WKMH to St Luke's, the helicopter is not the only option.  Construction on the new sheriff's office will begin next summer with completion and move in by fall.  It will be located east of the jail. Lan commented on what a great turnout  Sweet had for the "disaster" open house on October 24th, Emmett not so good.  I love our community involvement!  Good information and a few laughs, thanks!

MY NAME IS RUFUS...

...I should change my name to "Lucky" because I am one lucky Great Pyrenees. You see, today was to be my last day but thanks to a few thoughtful, kindhearted women I have a second chance. I was a working dog, and had a flock to watch over but somehow that went all wrong.  I neglected my flock by spending too much time with the neighbor's dog and the people that lived there. My owners had no use for me if I wasn't going to be a guard dog.  So to make a long story short, Carol from Weiser, called Sue in Emmett, who called Kim in Ola and Kim called Chris.  Chris had room for me at P.A.L. so Kim came and got me in Weiser.  I'm now staying at P.A.L. until I find a new home.  I'm very friendly and lovable and what's great is I'm about 4 years old so none of that puppy stuff.  I'm not a good guard dog, I just want to be a pet.  Come visit me at P.A.L., maybe you'd like to take me home. (P.S. I'm a fixed male and have had all my shots)  Thanks ladies!!

SATURDAY NIGHT'S PANCAKE SUPPER

Knute Sandahl-State Fire Marshal's Office

The Firemen's Pancake Supper Saturday night was nice.  The event was well attended and the food was very good.  Everyone got plenty to eat and had a nice time visiting with family, friends and neighbors.  After our stomachs were full, we were rewarded with a very informative presentation on "Preventing Chimney Fires" given by Knute Sandahl from the State Fire Marshal's office.  The Ola Ladies Club would like to thank everyone for coming.  As you know, all funds raised last night to directly to the Ola Fire Department.  Also many thanks to the kitchen staff, Dave and Bob and to Knute Sandahl.

"TICK" NEEDS YOUR HELP

"Tick" is a Blue Tick Hound.  He was rescued by the P.A.L. shelter in Emmett.  He was extremely thin, had really bad teeth and a large growth on his side.  At first sight it would appear that Tick was much older than his 6-7 years.  The first step to get Tick on the road to recovery, besides of course putting him on a good diet, was to have the growth looked at.  As good luck would have it, the growth was not cancerous.  Next, he needs his teeth cleaned.  This is a procedure that requires him to be sedated again, but necessary for his long term good health.  The veterinarian bills are adding up, but Chris at P.A.L. is certain that Tick will make someone a wonderful companion.  Upon Tick's recovery he will be placed in a facility that specializes in hounds. His new, forever home will be carefully chosen by the experienced staff.  This still leaves the vet bills.  If at all possible, could you make a donation of any size, payable to P.A.L. c/o "Tick".  By writing "Tick" on your check, your donation will go to his veterinary bills.  Thank you so very much!!

THE SCARY CREATURES HAVE LEFT OLA!!

The Ola Community Hall has returned to it's normal state, all of the scary decorations have been put away for another year.  This year's Haunted Hall was again a success thanks to the hard work of some wonderful Ola residents.  We had several trick or treaters and their parents too.  Many thanks to the decorating committee and also to the people that participate in handing out candy and to those that couldn't stay but drop candy off anyways.
