SERVICES FOR JODY CARLOCK HARDIN
Funeral services for Jody Carlock Hardin will be held Monday, October 3 at the New Life Christian Center, 212 S. Boise, Emmett, starting at 10:00AM. The graveside service is being held at the Ola Cemetery between 11:00AM-11:30AM, followed by dinner at the Ola Hall. The meat will be provided by the Ola Ladies Club, however, salads and desserts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to successful elk hunter, Duane Tucker, who spotted an injured Angus bull belonging to Blessinger's on Renwyck Creek where he had killed a 5 point bull with his bow. He reported the brand. Tom Blessinger, Roger Klingback and Lu Shelton went up Renwyck Creek, moved the bull down the trail carefully to Renwyck campground where the bull was loaded into a stock trailer.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MONDAY NIGHT MEETING!
I was unable to attend the Commissioners meeting Monday night, but my ace reporter sent me some of the highlights. You know who you are and many thanks!

The weed dept. has a cost sharing program on a first come first served basis. You can sign up in the spring and get herbicide for a discounted price. There were 16 new invasive weeds species brought into Gem County during the last year.
A grant is in the works for the overlaying of the remainder of the Sweet Ola Highway to the end of the pavement. Next summer will begin the prep work and engineering with the paving to be done in 2013.
A new emergency dispatch system for the state of Idaho is being prepared. This involves hardwire, wireless and satellite systems. This will go on line in one or two years.
Walter Knox Hospital is county owned but uses no tax payer money.
WOOD HAULER RUNS OFF THE ROAD!
Late, Thursday afternoon, a wood hauler ran off the road, north of Ola, by Fennell's. The ambulance was called up but it was determined that they were not needed. He had lost control and bounced across the rocky pasture, but did not roll his vehicle. The Sheriff is now investigating the accident.

...will be held at the Ola Cemetery, Thursday, September 29th at 2:00PM. Following the Graveside service, Ola ladies Club will be having a dinner at the Ola Hall. The meat for the dinner will be furnished but salads and desserts would be appreciated.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY
Dorothy Beal passed away last evening. Arrangements are being made for the funeral to be held at Potters Funeral Home, with a grave side service in Ola, followed by a dinner by the Ola Ladies Club. Our deepest sympathy to Dorothy's family and friends.

The Ola Inn will be closed starting Saturday (tomorrow) at noon for 7-10 days. During this closure, we will be making repairs and "spiffing" up the place. Alan J. and myself are going to be managing the Inn for Ellen upon reopening.

8 cattle shot on eastern Idaho grazing allotment
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Police say eight cattle were shot in the head and neck while they were grazing on a Targhee National Forest allotment.
Kent Shippen from Menan said the animals were at a watering hole near a frequently-traveled dirt road when they were shot. A Fremont County sheriff's deputy discovered the animals Wednesday evening, within about 24 hours of the shooting.
Shippen said two of his calves and two of his cows were killed, and another two of his animals were injured and will likely need to be put down. His business partners owned the other two slain cows.
Deputy Cody Gudmunson said law enforcement officers are trying to recover the bullets from the carcasses as part of their investigation. The cows are estimated to be worth between $10,000 and $12,000.

Hunters bag 3 wolves in first days of public hunt
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A couple of Idaho hunters have already reported success in their quest to bag a wolf.
Idaho Fish and Game officials say three wolves have been killed since the season opened Tuesday.
One hunter bagged a black male wolf near Island Park in eastern Idaho on Tuesday.
Agency Spokesman Niels Nokkentved says a hunter roaming the backcountry near Warm Lake in central Idaho shot and killed two -- one female pup and an adult female.
He says all three were taken legally.
State rules give hunters 72 hours to report a wolf kill to the agency's regional offices.
Idaho is holding its second public hunt in the last three years as part of its effort to manage the state's growing wolf population.

In a routine aerial check of the northern portions of Gem County, officers found marijuana plants growing in the back yard of a house off the Sweet/Ola Highway, according to Gem County Chief Deputy Donnie Wunder. Read more about the issue in the Sept. 7 print edition of the Messenger Index.
My sources tell me that about 24 mature plants were recovered in the vicinity of Sweet Lumber.
